THE HARVARD REAL ESTATE REVIEW (HRER) is a multidisciplinary, student-run publication that brings together perspectives from across Harvard, with a particular focus on real estate development, technology, and design. The publication sets out three main goals: “First, to foster research-based academic exchange between students and industry professionals in design, real estate, finance, and technology; second, to highlight existing academic initiatives while generating new opportunities for collaboration; and third, to provide cutting-edge scholarship to practitioners around the world.”

The inaugural issue, Navigating Investments with Ethical Risk, examined how different disciplines approach and understand real estate. Subsequent issues have taken on themes such as Megaprojects: Investment Strategies for a Catalytic Development, which looked at the financial and political complexities of large-scale undertakings and their environmental impacts, and Innovation in Practice, which explored the meaning of innovation in real estate and the tensions and opportunities it creates. More recent issues have investigated Adaptations and Evolutions and Disruption and Resilience.

In Spring 2022 issue number 10 of the journal was published in print. HRER continues to be published today, including content that is offered online. The journal pairs articles that present contrasting perspectives—whether from academics or leading practitioners— to spark dialogue and bridge the gap between design and investment.
